OUR PUBLICATIONS

_edited.jpg

We all know that environmental impacts of our past activities are becoming increasingly evident. Society and judiciary exert increasing pressure on the industry and government to improve and maintain environmental quality for our future generations. At the same time, increasing public awareness on health, safety and social aspects has led to a growing expectation from both public and private sector organizations to display responsible behavior and sensitivity in handling these issues. Needless to say, this has led to more stringent enforcement from regulatory authorities and judiciary. Looking at the instances that led to enforcement actions against the industry over the past two decades, the importance of a proactive approach has become apparent.

The industry has realized that a backlog of necessary compliance actions is unacceptable. However, one of the major problems faced by the industry has been to access current and latest information on the legal requirements and their applicability.

We at INDUS understand that in an ever-changing regulatory scenario, at both national and international levels, it is difficult for an Environment, Health, Safety, and Social (EHSS) manager, to keep himself fully updated on these aspects. We, therefore, brought out a series of publications to provide EHSS managers and other professionals with reliable and well analyzed information to monitor and track changes in EHSS legislation and related developments so as to help them in ensuring continued regulatory compliance.

Envirotrends® Practitioner's Handbook

Practitioner’s Handbook is prepared by INDUS, as part of the Envirotrends® Service, focusing on developments in EHSS legislations and corporate trends in India, in a concise, simple, and user-friendly manner. It essentially provides EHSS managers with a cost effective tool for identifying and monitoring potential risks and liabilities and compliance issues associated with an industrial unit.

Our review of EHSS compliance is fully based on professional judgment and hence the information in the document will guide EHSS managers on regulations of the country to ensure maximum compliance. Keeping the ever-increasing size of the handbook in mind and seeking better and easier ways to reach out to a greater number of readers more conveniently, its electronic version was launched in September 2011.

INDUS GEMS

GEMS is the Guidance Manual on Environmental Management Series of INDUS, which provides updated information about the spectific EHSS Rules. It is a concise review of the alterations in the EHSS Rules, published with respect to the superseded Rules.

Each section presented in the series is followed by INDUS’ Comments, giving a concise and clear understanding of the changes brought about by the New Rules.

The first publication in the INDUS-GEMS series was launched on 3rd December 2012, at the First Envirotrends Roundtable Conference organized by INDUS in New Delhi, and up till now INDUS has published 3 GEMS related to EHSS:

INDUS ESGS

Case Studies on ESG Risks and Opportunities

Environmental risk can have serious adverse effects on an organization's financial well-being and its ability to achieve its business objectives. Legislation and regulations as well as governance and accounting trends of environmental risk and liability can influence an organization's financial performance, reputation, brand, cash flow, and shareholder value. Corporations and their management are at increasing risk of facing criminal charges and serious financial penalties imposed for not properly taking care of environmental issues.

INDUS ESGS is our initiative to share Indian case studies on companies’ approach in managing environmental and social risks of their projects and the potential financial loss as well as loss of reputation, if this is not done in a proactive manner. The series essentially focuses on the cost of non-compliance which can be several times more than that of compliance.

Each publication is well researched, inclusive, and supported with relevant case studies, Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), and INDUS’ comments for better interpretation and to provide a complete picture. FAQs take into consideration the common problems faced by the industry and help the reader in dealing with the problems in a more holistic manner.
